Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, and Greater Well-Being

Friday, November 10th, 2017

Mindfulness is simply being aware of what is happening right now without wishing it were different; enjoying the pleasant without holding on when it changes (which it will); being with the unpleasant without fearing it will always be this way (which it won’t). James Baraz

Or as Jon Kabat Zinn (Full Catastrophe Living) has put it, “Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” Come learn what all this means and how one can begin the journey.

And consider this invitation: Start by being okay as you are NOW & then seek the changes you want for yourself and your life. Radical acceptance, as you might call it, is not part of the default process of the mind (you might even notice you don’t like the word “acceptance”). When we think something is wrong, we set about trying to fix it. Collectively, we’ve solved a lot of problems in the world. In our own lives, however, we can be our own worst enemy, undermining efforts to live a more meaningful, satisfying life. What might it mean to undertake the journey from a place of compassion for yourself?

A recent survey by Aon Hewitt found that 59% of employers say that they are “very likely to focus on improving the financial wellness of their workers this year in ways that extend beyond retirement decisions.” In 2014 only 30% of employers felt that way.
